TicoByte for May, 2013

Hello, PC Club members,

We meet this month on Saturday, May 18th, at the Pan American School in Belen at 9 AM.  Join us early, if you like, for coffee, snacks, and chat at 8:30.  Bring anything computer related, that you would like to share, sell, talk about, or get fixed.

  1. In addition to his regular Treasurer's Report this month, Ken's going to demo the BioAid (beta) application that Steve talked about last month.

  2. Chuck will talk about https://panopticlick.eff.org/, an interesting site to see what info you are putting out through your browser.  He is planning to give a Chromebook demo in June.

  3. I'm going to talk about my experience getting Windows 8 to dual boot with Ubuntu and (if time permits) give a brief demo of the Raspberry Pi. The quality of the demo will depend on the ability of the projector to accept HDMI input. If it doesn't, you'll see only a part of the screen in RCA composite video.

  4. Steve has seen spam going around titled "Google Doc for you".

  5. Tio has a short CISPA update - Obama threatened veto - Senate killed. This zombie will return - stay tuned for #3.

  6. Some of the links this month mentioned Intel's new CEO, Hotmail ends this summer, but don't panic, HP shifts focus to tablets, and the era of "Good enough" computing

I look forward to seeing you at the meeting,

Dick Sandlin
